I came into the automotive service section to buy a cabin air filter and I was hoping to have them check the car with a code reader to tell me why the "check engine" light had come on in my dash. They said they would run a "diagnostic test" (plugging in a simple code reader and looking up the code) for $180. This is outright robbery. This takes advantage of people who lack basic knowledge of vehicle diagnostics. A code reader can be bought on Amazon for about $20. I understand if the problem was complex and required additional time to test circuits, but plugging in a code reader and telling the customer what's wrong is not a $200 job. Shame on Canadian Tire for taking advantage of people. Most mechanics will check your car for free or for a small fee.
Kudos for staying open during the tornado power outage. You escorted people with a flashlight to the emergency supplies and allowed people to pay with cash. The community really appreciated it and we should all support this location for helping those in need. Thank you!
I don't go to Canadian Tire for auto servicing, so my review is about purchased goods. They don't always have what I'm seeking, but then again, I'm pretty particular about what I seek based on lots of web research. However, they have such a generous return policy that I feel obligated to patronize this store more often. And of course, I try not to abuse the return policy by treating the goods as gently as possible, and repackaging them as professionally as possible. Now that I think of it, I've hardly ever used their return policy (maybe once, on a rather biggish item), but they were so helpful about it that it just sticks out in my mind.
I will keep my review fair. Let it be known that I live(d) in the neighborhood, and have been a repeat client of this particular Canadian Tire for 4 years. No more. For my car service, I wanted to swap my winter rims for summer rims. I asked them to remove my bald summer tires from my summer rims and install new tires, and mount them onto my car. I asked for a specific set of tires. Checking the website, the store is said to have them in stock. I asked the representative in PERSON the day of my service if they definitely have the tires in stock. He assured me they did. I left my car and was told to wait for a call in 1.5 hours to pick the car up.1.5 hours later, they notify me that the service was not done because they could not find the tires. They wasted my time, rather than notify me immediately. They refused to order the tires from another location because it's not their policy. They refused to discount any future service. They also refused to order the tires without me expressly paying first. So, in short:1) Assured me work would be done, then didn't do it.2) Not aware of their own stocks and supply counts.3) Do not value customer time in the slightest.4) Refuse to apologize for their mistakes and refuse to offer any remediation.I will not be returning to this store. I urge other potential customers to heed my warnings and to visit any of Ottawa's other fabulous Canadian Tire locations.
This is probably my favourite Canadian tire store. It's easy to find everything. They have a washroom. You can pay at the auto service center cash register sometimes which I love. Staff are soooooo friendly with one or two exceptions. I love the new card system for Canadian tire money. lots of parking. Easy to get to. A little hard to drive out of.
