They gave me a quote of $1030 and then collected a deposit from me. They then changed the price to $1772. My shipment assuredly was not overweight to that extent. However, even when I asked the true weight of my shipment, they refused to tell me. I recommend against them not because they are a poor business, but because they are in fact a scam.
From Vancouver to Nova Scotia. We were given a pretty low ball estimate, which we were expecting. Grand total was within the range of what we thought it would be so no complaints there (but FYI our estimate for a 1 bedroom apt was around $2000 and ended up being $3500). Your stuff doesn't get weighed until Toronto so don't expect to know the final cost until then. We were told we would get 1-2 days notice of the arrival of our things. We were called at 11:40am and told it would be there between 12-5pm THAT DAY, but most likely closer to 12pm. Well, 5pm came and went so we called in. Were told now between 6-8pm. At 8pm we were called by the driver that it would be another hour. Several boxes arrived broken open with things broken inside. Many damaged boxes with actual footprints on them! We used heavy duty boxes from U-Haul and even they had holes busted in the sides. I am still missing a hope chest my father made me for my high school graduation along with all of its contents (a claim has been submitted). All in all it took a month for our stuff to get to us (from pick up day to arrival) and a lot of it came damaged or missing. If driving across yourself, would recommend that you get a trailer and haul it yourselffor the hassle a moving company is. You'll pack your own things so nothing will get damaged and you stuff will arrive when you do. Would NOT recommend these guys, I think they contract out throughout the trip across Canada and there is no telling what reputation those companies have. I think not very good given the condition of our belongings when they arrived.
This was a great experience. I moved from Trenton to the Saint-Quentin, NB. I was quoted a price and when I called before the move and removed a few boxes and items the price was adjusted down. They were easy to get in touch with also. Tony, who was in charge the day of the move, was great. They came on time and everything was packed so carefully. I was impressed. Even though they got great reviews I was nervous because of all the horror stories you hear about movers. I had nothing to fear. It was so easy. I requested Tony to deliver my belongings also but it was a different team (which turned out to be great as well). They let me know the day before the delivery and office called the day before before to let me know their arrival time. I could not have imagined a better move. The best thing was that the head office (Ottawa) was very responsive and could even be reached after hours and on the weekend. I worked with Michael during the quoting process and he was very nice and explained everything. He even brought up good points for packing and offered for us to purchase some covers for our sofas. You cannot go wrong with these guys. Great!
Move from Ottawa to Toronto. Items were packed carefully and picked up and delivered in one piece (and arrived when they were supposed to). Only issues of concern were that I never got to see how much the truck actually weighed, but apparently my quote was accurate based on the inventory list that I provided to them. Pro-tip - Ensure that your home insurance covers your belongings when they are in transit. The insurance provided by moving companies won't get you anything. I found it difficult to book elevators as the movers would only call to confirm timing of pickup and delivery the day before. Booking elevators, especially during busy times of the month (beginning and end) requires advanced booking, so calling the day before to confirm pick up (when the elevator is already booked for a block of time) isn't helpful. Michael was great help and responded promptly to e-mails but at one point, I got the impression that they contracted out to a company that doesn't have an excellent reputation. Just do your due diligence. I had a good experience, but it might depend on the cities and who is moving you (i.e. whether or not they contract out part of their services).
Movers showed up at 10pm. Estimated time was 4-7pm. No call to advise would be late. Then only moved half, came back the next morning. Our stuff arrived on the date agreed by the time agreed so that's why this got a 2*.A lot of our storage furniture were damaged beyond repair and now we have to wait 6-8 weeks before someone comes to inspect for our claims... needless to say I'm not impressed to keep this dismantled furniture in my home until then to be able to throw it away. We were quoted one price and it was double the price in the end. Maybe they should send someone to actually appraise what you have for an accurate estimate.
